Frequently Asked Questions
What if I cannot find the tight area?
Very common at first, and it's the most frequent reason people stop early. It takes a few sessions before you know what you're feeling for. Work slowly and in short sessions, and if you're seeing a pelvic PT, ask them to show you where they’ve been working. That shortens the learning curve more than anything else.
How much pressure should I use?
Less than you'd expect. About what you'd use to check whether a tomato is ripe — steady rather than firm, held until the muscle softens. You're holding it, so the depth and pressure are entirely yours and you can stop at any point. Going gently isn't the cautious version of doing this properly; with a muscle that's been holding on, it is doing it properly.
How long is a session, and how often?
Most people use it a few times a week rather than daily, for around ten to fifteen minutes. Short and regular works better than long and occasional. If you're working with a pelvic PT, follow their guidance instead of ours.
Is this the same as a dilator?
No. A dilator works on capacity and getting comfortable with insertion. A wand is shaped to apply targeted pressure to specific muscles, including deeper ones you can't reach with your fingers. Some customers use the wand first to help the muscles relax, then move on to dilators — they do different jobs.
Does this Pelvic Wand vibrate?
No, this one is fully manual. There's no motor, nothing to charge and nothing to set. Every bit of the pressure comes from you, which is exactly why you can be as gentle as you like. We do make a vibrating version if you'd prefer one.
Do I need lubricant, and how do I clean it?
Yes, a water-based one, and be generous — silicone drags as lubricant dries, so topping up partway through is normal. Afterwards, warm water and mild unscented soap, then dry it fully before storing.
Can I use it alongside pelvic floor physical therapy?
That's what most people do. A great many of our customers arrive here because their PT recommended a wand for home use between appointments. It extends the work rather than replacing it — bring it to your next session and ask her to show you how she'd use it.
