In these videos, IntimateRose.com's Dr. Amanda Olson, certified pelvic floor rehabilitation therapist, provides both an overview and a four-week training guide on using vaginal dilators. Dr. Olson introduces Intimate Rose's dilator training system, which are designed to help women afflicted by vaginismus, changes after cancer treatment such as radiation therapy, women experiencing pelvic pain associated with intercourse, and other pelvic pain disorders. Dr. Olson has a unique perspective as a former pelvic pain patient herself, which prompted her to create this system of dilators, which are covered in a smooth, medical-grade silicone that is both body-safe and BPA-free, making them easy to insert and remove.

Concerning beginning dilator training, Dr. Olson says that it's important to choose your end goal beforehand. If you're looking to tolerate sexual intercourse with penetration better, your end goal will be a dilator that is similar in size to your partner's erect penis. Conversely, if you're looking to use trainers to better tolerate pelvic exams or inserting tampons, then dilators on the smaller side of the spectrum will be more appropriate. However, with a full line of eight progressively-larger dilators, this system is able to help you progress, no matter where you start or where you want to finish, as you begin your training process with the properly sized dilator you are capable of tolerating without pain. The process of building your ability to tolerate these progressively-sized dilators is detailed extensively in subsequent videos, with Dr. Olson offering detailed tips and techniques that become progressively more advanced as the weeks go by.

What can I do as a healthcare provider?

Healthcare providers can help their patients with this process in a few ways. If you can write a script, you can provide one to support@intimaterose.com referencing your patient or have your patients upload / email it to us. State laws vary on who can or can't write a prescription. If you can not write a script, you can call your patient's PCP and ask them if they'd help.
